Where Is the Bootcamp Located?

The ABSN bootcamp will take place at the Oxley College of Health and Natural Sciences Building, located at 1215 South Boulder Avenue W, Tulsa, OK 74119.

Where Should I Stay During Bootcamp?

To ensure your prompt arrival at 8 am each day, we encourage you to select lodging within a reasonable distance of the Oxley College of Health and Natural Sciences Building. Special pricing is available to ABSN bootcamp participants through Ambassador Hotel and La Quinta Inn & Suites By Wyndham Tulsa Downtown . Please contact the hotel directly for details.

What’s the Purpose of the Bootcamp?

We’ve designed the ABSN bootcamp to equip you with the skills and competencies you’ll need to be successful in your clinical experiences as a student nurse. During the five-day bootcamp, you’ll perform clinical exercises alongside fellow online learners. You and your peers will be supervised by our nursing faculty, who will ensure that you develop the skills you need to qualify for clinical placement.

Why Is the Bootcamp In-Person?

The ABSN bootcamp is intended to prepare you with the required skills for real, hands-on experiences in clinical settings. The bootcamp provides the opportunity for you to build these skills via clinical simulations and interactions with your peers as practice patients. You’ll train under the constant guidance of our nursing faculty, who will provide the knowledge and one-on-one instruction to ensure your clinical proficiency.

How Can I Prepare for Bootcamp?

To ensure optimal preparedness and performance during the ABSN bootcamp, you must complete a series of virtual lessons by the end of the day on Monday, May 6, 2024. You can access these lessons via Blackboard Ultra, where you’ll watch how-to videos to familiarize yourself with skills you’ll be practicing during the bootcamp and complete quizzes and exams related to these skills. This preparation will support your hands-on mastery of the skills you’ll need to be successful in your clinical experiences as a student nurse.

What Items Do I Need To Bring To Bootcamp?

  • Two sets of scrubs. We encourage you to purchase two sets of scrubs, which you must order* from www.raleyscrubs.com at least 45-60 days prior to attending bootcamp.

  • Your phone, iPad, or laptop. Bring a device of your choice to access and review the skills modules and how-to videos available in Blackboard Ultra.

  • A change of clothes. In addition to the scrubs you’ll wear to bootcamp each day, you should bring a change of casual, comfortable clothes. These will come in handy for skills exercises where you’ll stand in as the practice patient for your peers.

*Please review the ABSN New Student Guide for more information about ordering your scrubs and how to apply the TU student discount.

Is There a Dress Code for Bootcamp?

The ABSN bootcamp is designed to prepare you for success in your clinicals, so we hold the same professional standards of dress as those of our clinical partners. We expect your appearance to be pressed and polished. You should wear clean scrubs with a black or white undershirt. Long hair should be up and out of the way, and you should refrain from wearing large and/or flashy jewelry.

For full details about TU’s clinical dress code, please reference pages 27-28 of the BSN program handbook.

What Materials Will I Receive at Bootcamp?

You’ll receive your personalized TU ID badge during bootcamp, as well as a lab kit with the supplies you’ll need to perform skills checkoffs.

What Happens After I Complete Bootcamp?

Once nursing faculty have determined that you’ve developed all required skills during bootcamp, you’ll be qualified for clinical-based courses in the ABSN degree path and clinical placement as a student nurse. TU clinical coordinators will match you with a preceptor and arrange your clinical placement.

Our clinical coordinators will rely on your feedback in selecting clinical locations in your area, so we encourage you to submit your top choices for potential preceptors through the Clinical Placement Form .
